Are you wondering how you can give your low platelet count a big boost? How about a boost from 40,000 to 90,000? Or maybe you are slightly below the normal range around the 90,000 to 100,000 and would like to really get to the 150,000 level or even higher. Well stick with me in this article and I will show you how it is possible to improve your ITP blood disorder with the foods you eat.
How can you achieve this goal? I am going to show you some basic foods that are found in your local grocery store that can help you reach this goal. But first I need to show you which foods can actually cause you more damage and aggravate your ITP blood disorder.
First you need to understand how the body destroys your platelets. In ITP disorder, platelets are being destroyed by the following factors:
- The spleen is destroying them
- The immune system is destroying the platelets
- The bone marrow is not producing enough platelets
- And finally, toxic oxygen molecules known also as free radicals are destroying your platelets
If you can somehow shoot down one of these or a few of these mechanisms, then you will have less platelet destruction and more platelets to spare for your body. In this article I am going to show you how to shut down the last one or number four of the above selections.
Just by doing this you can slowly but surely increase your platelets in a few months.
But first let me give you the bad foods. These foods will aggravate your ITP blood disorder.
Here is a short list of the foods to avoid:
- Avoid all greasy foods
- Avoid margarine and mayonnaise
- Avoid all fried foods
- Avoid all types of fast foods
- Avoid too much protein
- Avoid high sugar content foods and refined starches
Foods that will help increase platelets
These are the foods you really need to increase in your diet. Increase the amounts of these foods in their fresh state. And when I say fresh, I really mean fresh. You should increase your daily consumption of raw foods. These foods contain large amount of phytonutrients. Of course, I am referring to fruits and veggies.
Super antioxidant foods such as blueberries, pomegranate and all the berry family are potent foods that are helpful in increasing your platelet level. Some of these should not be used if your platelets are extremely low. But as long as you are over the 40,000 to 60,000 level you should be safe. You should always be monitoring yourself. Make sure you consume at least 1 cup of blueberries a day.
Have at least one large green vegetable salad daily. Also drink daily 2 glasses of a green drink that may contain carrots, romaine, cabbage, wheat grass and an apple.
Adding vitamin E in small amounts has been shown to be helpful. No more than 100 IU a day.
By improving your general health you can improve your ITP blood disorder and increase your low platelet count.
